INDUSTRIAL MEASUREMENT AND CONTROL COURSES

During 2000 the Polytechnic will be presenting Industrial Measurement and Control courses depending on demand. The course is suitable for persons who:

· want to upskill from other trades particularily, registered electricians will be able to obtain credits towards the National Certificate in Industrial Measurement and Control (Level 4)
· are working in IMC fields of engineering

· are trainees in IMC fields of engineering.

The curriculum follows the Unit Standards registered by the National Qualfications Authority of NZ. Candidates will be assessed according to the criteria developed by the ETITO and units passed will be registered on the framework.
The course provides an opportunity for those who are working in the IMC field, but have no formal qualifications to obtain formal recognition for their skills. Course material covering the elements in these Unit Standards will be provided. The course is based around self-paced learning material which will also be supplied and 3 block courses .
A qualified IMC engineer will be available from 5:00 to 7:00 PM one evening a week in the IMC laboratory at the Polytechnic. During this timestudents wil have the opportunity to discuss problems with the subject matter and have any questions answered and unit standard assessments may be completed by the students. These assessments will be evaluated by the tutor on duty and assistance provided if necessary.
The course has been designed to assess and recognise the skills of persons working in the IMC industry or those with previous experience. Newcomers will be guided and assisted in mastering the material at their own pace and they will be expected to study and research the material in their own time.
Depanding on enrollments the course will commence during February 2000 and there will be 4 weeks of study leave during the year and lectures and assessment periods will cease at the end of November 2000.
