WHO WAS AT THE SHOW?

A director of a small-to-medium sized company, probably from Auckland, looking to automate his plant (or enhance its automation) and improve control.

That’s the profile of the average visitor to last November’s Control ’98 expo in Auckland. An analysis of the nearly 1,200 registered visitors to the show indicates the largest proportion of visitors were managing directors/partners /principals, (18%) followed by electronic/electrical engineers (13%).

More than 70% of the visitors were decision makers, with authority to purchase (53%) and authority to specify (20%). Some 76% were from Auckland.

The vast majority of the visitors indicated their main interests lay in automation and control (75% and 76% respectively). Instrumentation, (61%) measurement (48%), design (44%) and components (43%) were the next most popular areas of interest.

Other interest areas included pneumatics (32%), robotics (32%) and quality assurance (22%).

Most of the visitors represented organisations with 1 - 10 employees (43%) while 27% had more than 100 employees.

Awards

Control ’98 also marked the introduction of a number of IMC awards for significant projects and developments in the process control industry. They will be a regular feature at future events.
