General Details
These couses are core components of the Industrial Measurement and Control Diploma option.
 These courses will be run by correspondence and will have a practical block course component.
 The laboratory course of 2.5 days per subject will be held in the week of 3-7 November 2003
 The total study time for each subject is 100 hours.
 A 2 hour exam is also provided for each subject, at the end of the year.

The courses is run in conjunction with the Institutute of Measurement and Control NZ and Fieldbus Foundation End User Council

 The course is run in conjunction with the Open DeviceNet Vendors Association New Zealand Australia User Group Inc (ODVA)
 
The purpose of the course is to give the student the ability to successfully configure a DeviceNet installation.
 Study is divided between theory and practical exercises which form an essential feature of this course.
 Ideal for students with an Electrical background.
 (Please bring a calculator. Lunch is provided).
 
Equipment used and course content:
 
  • The configuration software used is RSNetworx for DeviceNet supplied by Rockwell Automation.
  • RS500Logix Software will be used for programming the SLC500 PLC.
  • Allen Bradley SLC500 PLCs will be used.
  • You will configure a network including some of the following devices:
    variable speed drives, operator interfaces, photo electric devices, proximity detectors, contactors, I/O interfaces.
  • You will be exposed to equipment from vendors including:
    Rockwell Automation, Cutler Hammer (EIC), Tait Control Systems, PDL, Connector systems, Keystone, SMC, Burkett.

This course follows from National Certificate in Electrical Engineering
The course is ideal for students with an Electrical background.
This course is the replacement for Trade Certificate Industrial Instrumentation.
This course is studied by correspondence and associated block courses.
There are On Job Unit standards to complete the practical requirements for the qualification.
